Celebrating Women

Women were honoured at special Mothering Sunday services held on March 15th in the villages of Peasedown St John and Wellow.

Parish churches marked the occasion by giving flowers to all women attending the services. Three gatherings took place during the day: All Age Worship at St Julian’s Church in Wellow at 10am, Morning Praise and Holy Communion at St John’s Church in Peasedown St John at 10.30am, and a 4.30pm Soul Food service with Holy Communion at St John’s Church.

A special thank you to the Learning Tree Preschool for the beautiful flowers and cards they made for the women attending the 10.30am service. Young people from Soul Kids and Soul Youth also created flowers to give to the women attending the afternoon Soul Food service, a big thank you to their leaders too! (see photos below)

Revd Matthew Street, leader of the Anglican churches in Peasedown St John, Wellow and Foxcote with Shoscombe, said the day was an opportunity to give thanks for mothers and all women, while also reflecting on inspiring female figures from the Bible such as Mary of Nazareth, Mary Magdalene, Ruth and Esther.

Mothering Sunday has been celebrated in the UK and Ireland on the fourth Sunday in Lent since the 16th century and has become a day dedicated to honouring mothers.

Our young people made flowers to give to all the women at St. John’s Church in Peasedown at our afternoon family service, SOUL FOOD at 4.30pm

A huge thank you to the Learning Tree Preschool for the beautiful flowers and cards they made for the ladies at the 10.30 service on Mothering Sunday. The pictures on the cards illustrate what makes the children happy in their families.
