'Sophia' Book Club

Sophia is an ancient Greek word for wisdom and, in the Christian tradition, the female personification of Divine Wisdom. So this seems a fitting name for our new book club, a group seeking to grow in wisdom by reading, and meeting to discuss, classic literature from the Christian tradition.

Central to the group’s journey will be the work of The Inklings, the Oxford-based group of Christian authors from the mid twentieth century that included CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien. As our starting point we will take one of their most inspiring texts, The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis. We will read a few chapters and then come together each week for fellowship and to share our thoughts.

The group is led by Tim Summers, who will be hosting the meetings at his home in Lower Writhlington, a book-filled church conversion which offers the perfect setting for such explorations – ancient stone walls soaked in prayer; a roaring fire; tea and cake. If you are interested in joining the group, contact Tim Summers on 07581 225804 or tim.summers@templebright.com.
