Take a virtual tour of St. James the Less with Martin Palmer

Welcome to St. James the Less church, Foxcote. We are one of four churches – all named after saints beginning with J – hence the team is known as the St. J’s Group.

We are the Mother Church certainly for the churches of Shoscombe and Peasedown and maybe we are even earlier than the fine medieval church at Wellow.

Our church is a simple, quite plain building with parts dating from the 12th century and a major upgrade in 1721 when it was given a rather fine Georgian Classical facelift.

Yet within these walls lie stories of Christian faith which take us on the long journey of Christianity in England and through the very many diff erent ways that faith has been lived, believed and expressed, not least in this very building. From Catholic, through Puritan to the Anglican faith of today, these walls have seen it all. Here the community has celebrated births, delighted at weddings and buried its dead. This is a place where faith and doubt are explored every year through our prayers, services and special events. We are open for all who seek a place to be still. Or a place to mourn. Or a place to give thanks. Or a place to think.

So come with us as we take a journey through time and faith. Discover the hidden sacred directions; the footprint of prayer; the lost north door; the Anglican celebration pulpit and so much more.

Welcome, to this House of Prayer of the past, the present and the future.
