Church opens Christmas crackers with festive holiday club for kids

St John’s Church in Peasedown St John is set to continue with its active programme of children’s holiday clubs with a special festive treat in the run up to Christmas. On Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd December, parents will be given the chance to catch up with some last minute Christmas shopping, as all primary school-aged children are invited to take part in SJs Does Christmas – two days of games, craft, fun, Christian teaching, and the re-telling of the Christmas story Rob Bubyer, the children’s pastor at St John’s Church is organising the event. He said:‘‘This is the next of our children’s holiday clubs this year, with more lined up in 2016.  We have two action-packed days prepared that will not only include Christmas fun and games, but will also remind children what the real meaning behind the occasion is.  SJ’s Does Christmas will give children a biblical understanding of Christmas. The Christmas story has been told and passed down from generation to generation. We know the characters—Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men, angels, the innkeeper, and of course—Jesus! But, there is more to each of these characters than meets the eye. The experiences of several of these characters in the Christmas Story can help us to discover even more about this amazing story than we ever thought was possible.  God sent His Son as a gift to the world! But, God also has many other gifts that He wants to give each of us, such as grace, joy, peace and wisdom. We are reminded of these gifts when we read the Christmas story.”

SJs Does Christmas only has 70 spaces available, which are likely to fill up fast, so parents/carers are being encouraged to register their children online as soon as possible at

The holiday club will run from 9 am – 3 pm in St John’s Church, Church Road, on both Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd December.  At 2pm on the second day, family members and the wider community are invited to a special service to showcase some of the work the children have completed.

Rob added:“We are also holding a Christmas Service for all the family straight after the holiday club, from 2pm, with a special treat from the children at ‘SJ’s Does Christmas’.  We hope you can stay with your children for this special service of carols and the Christmas story with mince pies and candy canes.”

Children will need to bring a packed lunch to the event. There is also a registration fee of £5 per child, per day. If cost is an issue, then please get in touch with us. Email or phone 07977094262.
